Every day, across countless homes, nannies are doing work that goes far beyond childcare.
They are wiping tears, preparing meals, reading the same favorite book for what feels like the hundredth time, planning adventures, helping with homework, navigating toddler emotions, celebrating milestones, and providing the consistency and reassurance children need to thrive.
They are also giving parents something incredibly valuable: peace of mind.
That is why National Nanny Recognition Week is so important!
A Nanny Provides More Than Childcare
A nanny doesn’t simply arrive for work each morning. Over time, they become part of the rhythm of a family’s life.
They learn which stuffed animal absolutely must come along for nap time. They know the song that can turn tears into smiles. They remember how a child likes their sandwich cut and which playground has the best slide.
They are there for first steps, first words, first days of school, scraped knees, lost teeth, belly laughs, difficult days, and countless seemingly ordinary moments that eventually become childhood memories.
And somewhere along the way, something beautiful often happens:
A nanny becomes part of a village!
At Rainbow Nannies, that is something we never take for granted.
The Work That Often Goes Unseen
Career nanny care requires much more than loving children.
It takes patience. Reliability. Flexibility. Knowledge. Creativity. Emotional awareness. Good judgment. Communication. And the ability to walk into someone else’s home every day and care for their children while respecting the values, routines, and parenting choices of that family.
Much of this work happens quietly.
Parents may not see every tantrum their nanny patiently worked through, every little hand held while crossing the street, every mess cleaned up, every moment of encouragement, or every time their nanny noticed that a child needed a little extra comfort that day.
But those moments matter!
Children may eventually outgrow the stroller, the playroom, and even the need for a nanny, but the feeling of being safe, cared for, encouraged, and loved can stay with them for a lifetime.
So Dear Families…This Week, Say Thank You!
National Nanny Recognition Week is an opportunity for families to intentionally stop and recognize the person who gives so much of their time, energy, patience, and heart to their children.
And appreciation doesn’t have to be extravagant.
A handwritten note from the parents or children, flowers, their favorite coffee or meal, a thoughtful gift, a gift-card, a bonus, a paid day off, or another personal gesture can mean so much.
But…perhaps one of the most meaningful things you can give your nanny costs nothing at all!
Tell them.
Tell them you notice what they do.
Tell them you appreciate the relationship they have built with your children.
Tell them that their reliability makes your life easier.
Tell them that knowing your children are safe with them gives you peace of mind.
Sometimes the people who spend their days caring for everyone else need to be reminded that they are cared about, too.
To Our Nannies: We See You!
To the incredible nannies within the Rainbow Nannies community and to professional nannies everywhere:
We see you. We value you. And we appreciate you.
We know that being a nanny is not always easy. There are long days, challenging moments, changing schedules, growing children, and all the emotions that come with caring deeply for another family.
We also know what an extraordinary difference the right nanny can make.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for being dependable.
Thank you for the patience you give on the difficult days and the joy you bring to the good ones.
Thank you for every bottle prepared, every story read, every stroller walk, every school pickup, every silly song, every hug, and every moment when a child needed you and you were there.
We appreciate you so much!
