Did you know that all childcare providers placed by agencies in California have to be registered with TrustLine? It doesn’t matter if you are a Newborn Care Specialist, a Babysitter, a Nanny, or a Tutor; you must be listed on the TrustLine registry or be a current applicant, if you work in the State of California.
TrustLine was created in 1987 by the California Legislature to give parents an important tool to use when selecting an in-home childcare provider for their children. So, by being registered with TrustLine it gives parents peace of mind.
TrustLine is California’s only registry of in-home child care providers, who have been through a criminal background screening and clearance process. This means you have no disqualifying criminal convictions or substantiated child abuse reports in the State of California. This is so important for a family to know.
Additionally, TrustLine will check its database continuously, screening out any in-home childcare provider who are convicted of murder, manslaughter, child molestation, assault with a deadly weapon, willful child cruelty; and other crimes. Thousands of individuals with criminal records have been denied, or removed, a listing on the registry.
If you have lived out of state, an agency will still run an additional background check; or some families will require an additional background check next to the TrustLine registry. It shouldn’t be something that is seen as awkward. You are securing the family that you are committed to extending excellent care for their child(ren). After all, parents want to feel comfortable leaving their precious child in your care.
TrustLine provided us with the accurate and correct information for you to start the process of becoming registered; and we’re sharing these easy steps with you.

We recommend you call the Live Scan vendor at (800) 315 – 4507 to make an appointment.
Or, you can schedule an appointment online and determine if there is a location near you by going to their website:
If there is not a MorphoTrust location that is convenient for you, you can also go to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) website that lists all the Live Scan locations by County: https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations.
Step 4.
Take the Live Scan form; and the attached Live Scan Appointment Cover sheet with you to the fingerprint appointment.
The Live Scan vendor will collect the DOJ fee of $64.00, plus their fee to roll your fingerprints.
Step 5:
Wait for a letter from the “Department of Social services” about your status of your Trustline registration. Rainbow Nannies will also receive notification of your status.
If you rather apply by snail mail, we can email you all the forms and information.
It’s a pretty self-explanatory process, but we are still here to answer all your questions. Feel free to email us at: info@rainbownannies.com
